This cemetery has two sections, one the Mount Hope section and the other is the IOOF section. The IOOF section is very old and no longer used for burials. Some older records might refer to it as a cemetery, but no new burials are done under that name. There is now no way to record the sections in the area where they abut, because the line is not distinct between them.
The two sections are now considered one cemetery. The IOOF section was maintained at one time by the lodge. The two sections abut each other and are now maintained by the Thornapple Township under the Mount Hope Cemetery board.
Information was gathered by Ruth McMonigle and Sara Colburn. They walked the cemetery, added the new burials and collected information from the county records and newspapers. Cemetery transcription was revised in November 2009.
